THE BEEF INDUSTRY’S STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES REGARDING NUTRITION AND HEALTH

Producers, processors and marketers of the nation’s beef supply are committed to providing a wholesome, nutritious food and to communicating science-based information about beef’s nutritional qualities and the role of beef in a healthful diet. NEW RESEARCH DEMONSTRATES LEAN BEEF IS GOOD FOR HEART HEALTH (December 15, 2011)
A new study published in the January 2012 edition of American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that beef can play a role in a cholesterol-lowering diet, despite commonly held beliefs. The study found that diets including lean beef every day are as effective in lowering total and LDL "bad" cholesterol as the "gold standard" of heart-healthy diets (DASH, Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension). Please access the full study here and view our fact sheet about the study.

STATEMENT ON MYPLATE FOOD ICON RELEASE
The new visual icon released today by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) offers simple and actionable steps to build healthier diets. This straightforward visual gets back to the basics, illustrating how to create a healthful plate with a balanced mix of nutrition from a variety of foods.

"BEEF. IT'S WHAT'S FOR DINNER" AD CAMPAIGN
The latest "Beef. It’s What's For Dinner" consumer advertising campaign helps Americans become more familiar with the 29 lean cuts of beef and the power of beef’s protein. The campaign features the nutritional benefits and versatility of six lean beef favorites: T-Bone steak, Filet, Top Sirloin, Strip steak, Top Round and 95 percent Lean Ground Beef.

THE HEALTHY BEEF COOKBOOK
The Healthy Beef Cookbook, coauthored by the Beef Checkoff through the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the American Dietetic Association, includes more than 130 delicious lean beef recipes, along with nutrition information for each recipe and beef cooking techniques.

BEEF FOR BREAKFAST

Breakfast has long been called the most important meal of the day and a study suggests that including protein at breakfast promotes satiety, which can curb hunger when trying to maintain or lose weight.
